Name: Lorena Skonberg City: Anchorage Location: AK | Comment: Hi Everyone - I am glad the guestbook is back up. I am not a fan of the bulletin board. Jacob and Lucas are in Ouzinkie - they had an adventure getting to Kodiak. Their first plane ride by themselves and ended up circling Kodiak because of fog, then to Homer, then back to Anchorage and then finally back on the plane to Kodiak. Thank you to Danica who was on the plane with them. My house is so lonely and quiet. My life is so routine, the other night I went to check on the boys and they weren't in their beds. Panic was about to set in when I realized they were in Ouzinkie. I had to laugh out loud at myself. Two more sleeps and I will be at home too. Pray for good weather or at least decent weather. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. |

Here in Vegas, it's all rush, rush, rush. I did not get the job with the Coroners Office; I just found out last friday. I am interviewing to work at the UNLV School of Medicine's Family Practice Clinic on Wednesday. I got accepted to Tauro University's Masters Degree pogram to be a PA. School will start next fall. If any of you remember Renee Schlabach (a KANA doctor), she wanted to come back this spring to KANA, but it didn't work out...she will be working at ANMC from March through May. Her and I are still dating....Hmmmmm. Well, best wishes fro the holiday season to everyone. I truly miss Ouzinkie and being your Health Aide. Much Love, Scott |

I remember counting from like 50 days or something I was so excited then, you can only imagine how happy I am right now. Well I'm going to be home in less than 35 hours!! Unbelievable. I know that it's getting bad, because ever since I've been here I have been keeping track of the weather whenever possible. Sometimes there wouldn't be a daily picture and I would wallow in sorrow all day long until there was a new picture. For instance, yesterday I was waiting all day for there to be a picture of home I was rather saddend until there was. Well enough> i love and miss you. Can't wait to see everyone!! |

Can't wait to see my beloved family. Been so long since I made an entry. Can't think of anything to say that wouldn't be offensive that's why. Takes a lot of concentration not to be that way. Bout to just bite my tongue off so no one knows what I think. Perhaps my inferior intelect has been corrupted by Korn, Slipnot, Mudvayne, Deicide, System of a Down, Disturbed, Eminem, Ludacris, and all those other artists of the music industry. I shall leave now and cease my ranting. Forward all complaints to the local authorities. DMCJR |

Name: Lorena City: Anchorage Location: AK | Comment: Jacob had his first hockey game of the season on Saturday at 8 a.m. He plays for the Boys & Girls Club Dimond Mini Mites (5-6 year olds). That boy loves to be on the ice and his heart is into hockey. He plays all positions, but his favorite is goalie and center. On Saturday, he stopped 2 shots and got scored on once. He was so proud, as was his Mama (his biggest fan). Lucas loves to coach him from the side. If I ever remember to take my camera, I will send in pictures. The boys can't wait for Christmas break so they can come home for a few weeks. |

You know, get a car and wander aimlessly for a while. To be able to go to the beach at any time day or night. Not sure how you spell it, but the Luau was very nice. The food, the dancing. At the very least this should be the one place that anyone visits. Not to mention the swimming. Love swimming you know. Especially considering that the water temp in the winter here is warmer than any water in the summer there. Crazy isn't it? Halloween was insane, there were so many people out. I think that's all I got. Later. |

They had been teachers on Saint Lawrence Island all during WWII, before they came to Ouzinkie so I know that's your correct answer to my question. They taught in the old school house that's currently in the Random Pictures. We also had dances there on Saturday nights. That was one busy building in the "olden days". |

Name: Dya-Dya Dan City: Uzinkiiya Location: Russian America | Comment: Hi Anika & Jose Rodriguez - As I read some of the messages on this site, I realized that you DO need encouragement to stick with your studies. So, that is why I'm dropping you aline. Uzinkiiya remains in a time warp where there is little change - it is both a good thing and maybe not such a good thing - depending on how you look at it. Things have not changed dramatically since you left, and things will not change dramatically when you come back. So I am encouraging you to stick with what you are doing; get educated; and, you are the ones that make the excitement in your life, not the village which you left behind that has remained the same. The Baby-Boomers are the last generation that will get away with sruviving without a formal education. |

Name: Lorelei City: Phoenix Location: Arizona | Comment: Little Gummpy (Smuck) told me of this site. I was glad to see pictures of a place I had been so long ago. It brought back a lot of memories that I have had there. Walking through the forest picking salmon berries and watching deer and fox, my fondest memory was sitting for hours in a cove watching a sea otter floating and basking in the sun (Sonja's pet). Shooting a rifle for the first time and many others. Even reading messages from others who I still remember and think of at times. Ouzinkie is a special place that I will remember always. Hello to you all. |

I'm paying for this internet time too. Anyway, I'm not exactly in Perth right now I don't think. We get dropped off by boats at the docks in a place called Freemantle. Then we'll have to take some other mode of transport to get to the city of Perth. Not a long ride, or so I hear. Gotta say happy birthday to my big little bro. That's nicer than what I wrote on the one that got erased which was to my useless brother huh? This place is beautiful. We're definately going to do all we can to make the 07' Euro trip. Gotta try to do an Aussie trip someday as well. Maybe when Wylder grads. Then something else with Danica, and so on and so forth. Kay serah serah, whatever will be will be. True enough no? That'd be a hell of a lot of trips by the time we got to True. Barring the possibility of another sibling. WHOA!!! Forget I said that. The boat internet security people barred this site for some reason that I can't seem to fathom. My only link to home shot down. Later then people. Me signing off. |

What to do, what to do. I expected to enter a nice little shpeel. I find myself afflicted with severe writer's block. No one else was saying anything so I took it upon myself to do so. Quite the babbling brook now aren't I. Really wonder how much writing the entry can take. Should I test it? Must one adore one's family so much more than one's self? Life with constraints is so boring. Spontanuity is so much more fun. Is that how you spell it? Perhaps someone can go over the abbundance of gramatical errors in this. With my internet I wouldn't be surprised to find that this doesn't even get entered. I must apologize, should I? I just found the entries to be so bland. HI, MISS YOU, WHAT'S UP. Originality is usually more offensive, but much more entertaining. Or so I believe. Who really cares what anyone else believes anyway. Unless they believe the same as you. Ahah. Simply writing this was more entertainment than I've had in quite a while. Later. |

Name: Tanya Quick City: Kodiak Location: Alaska | Comment: what an awesome website, guys! this is really a great thing for all of us who really miss ouzinkie and had the best time growing up there only to leave the village and visit so infrequently that when we return all the dogs look unfamiliar. haha, i miss the time when ouzinkie was truly my home, and now even living so close as kodiak i feel lame for not making more time to visit. it's kind of difficult sometimes... so much has changed, so many old friends left town and gotten on with their own lives. but that is what part of what makes this website so neat is reading what and from where other ouzinkie peeps have written! we need to organize, instead of like a class reunion since for most of us that only includes maybe two other people, like a village reunion. yes. that would be good. :) |

Name: Maryellen McFadden City: Gladstone Location: Oregon | Comment: Does anyone have a history of the Grimes family and the Grimes Packing Co.? I think that I stayed with Mrs. Grimes when I lived in Ouzinkie in the large house behind the old schoolhouse (which was moved in later than when I lived there). That's a long time ago to remember but the lady that I lived with was elderly and told me stories about the Mt. Katmai epruption. She firmly believed that the Kodiak bears were so cranky because the ash from the eruption got into their fur and made them itch. Well, the Mt. Katmai eruption was back, I think, in 1912. She told me stories about going around with lanterns and umbrellas for at least a week after it happened because of the ash fallout. I do remember going through the attic of the old store and we kids found old traps, even snowshoes, and other artifacts left over from the past. The history of how the Grimes family came to Ouzinkie would be very interesting. |

Name: Maryellen McFadden City: Gladstone Location: Oregon | Comment: For the first time after working up to the age of 76, I have had time to dig out old photos and scan them. I have a few that I took in Ouzinkie sixty years ago that have somehow survived. At that time I had never used a camera before and the camera that I took the pictures with was old, with a fogged viewer, so how I got anything is an accident. The pictures are mostly taken from the Grimes Packing Co. dock of boats coming in to unload salmon. The scans were taken with SilverFast and cleaned up with PhotoshopElements. I have stored four of them (so far) in PhotoBucket but am not too sure how to get them to you. I learn as I go. If you can tell me how I go about sending them to you through PhotoBucket, they are all yours.
